George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a hardworking and dedicated man who took great pride in his family and the life they built together. Family always came first for George, and he was someone his loved ones could count on no matter what.
George leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the love of his family, including his beloved wife of 62 years, Jan Sopher; his children, Laurie Kogut, Greg Sopher, and Lisa (Darren) Thompson; his grandchildren, Brian (Liz) Kogut, Zachary Kogut, Kaitlyn (Nate) Grimmer, Gabrielle Sopher, and Ava Thompson; and his great-grandchildren, Fabian Piedra and Emma Grimmer.
He is also survived by his siblings, Jim Sopher, Linda (Mike) Greenberg, John Sopher, and Brenda (Dave) Massat, and was preceded in death by his brother Chris Sopher and sister-in-law Cheri Sopher. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will carry his memory with them.
George had a deep love for golf and the time spent on the course with his friends and family. He was also incredibly hardworking and dedicated, spending 43 years at Ford Motor Company. During his career, George worked his way from production to Tool and Die, eventually becoming a UAW Health and Safety Representative. He took great pride in his work and was committed to looking out for his fellow workers; he had a natural ability to lead. Those who knew him would describe him as a truly stellar person — dependable, generous, and always willing to help. Despite all he accomplished throughout his career and life, George remained remarkably humble and never sought recognition for himself.
George will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His loyalty, quiet strength, humility, and devotion to his family left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to have known him. His memory will live on through his family, the stories they share, and the many lives he touched along the way.
