James was born October 5, 1931 in Malden, MO to Wesley and Bessie (Rhodes) Hedrick. He is survived by one son, James Harvey (Donna) Hedrick, Jr. of Highland, IN; and two daughters, Patricia Gail Hedrick and Judy Darlene Hedrick, both of Griffith, IN; along with 11 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
James is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Wilma Jean (Hicks) Hedrick; two sons, Monte Ray Hedrick and Michael Gene Hedrick, both of Hammond, IN; his parents, Wesley and Bessie Hedrick of MO; and one sister, Clara (Ruben) Eastwood of Ottumwa, IA.
James joined the Army at the age of 17, where he served in the Korean war. He retired from Indiana Harbor Belt RailRoad after 43 years of service. He was an avid bowler and loved to travel.
