James R. Lucas

A dedicated parent and loving spouse, James filled our lives with warmth, laughter, and kindness.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Lucas, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Suzanne (Kris) Major and her husband, Jim Major, Dennis (Scott) Martin and his wife, Sherry Martin, and Amanda (Mandy) Hill and her husband, Michael Hill; his grandchildren, Christina Major (Jaryd), Jamie Major (Anthony), Renee Martin (Zach), Owen Williams, Ryan Martin, and Bailey Rapavi; and his nephew, Larry Lucas, and his wife, Shirley Lucas.

James was a devoted member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church in Portage, IN, where he served as a lector. He was a proud veteran and dedicated 65 years as an Iron Worker with Local Union 395 before retiring. James had a big personality and loved his family and God deeply. He volunteered for many years as a coach and mentor in softball and basketball, touching many lives along the way.

He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 24, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 am at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage, IN 46368. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am. Floral arrangements may be sent directly to Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church.

A private burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
