Jan was the devoted daughter to the late Gilbert P. and Evelyn C. (nee Hilbrich) Hoffman; sister to Thomas (the late Linda) Hoffman, Sr. and the late Rick Hoffman, Sr.; sister-in-law to Jill Jacobsma; loving aunt to Rick (Bailey) Hoffman, Jr., Missy (Dave) Simons, Thomas (Melisa) Hoffman, Jr., Jennifer (Azhar) Usman; great aunt to Ricky III, Brynn, Kaitlyn, Kylie and Aidan.
Jan was a 1974 graduate of Lake Central High School. She retired from Our Lady of Mercy (Franciscan Dyer) Hospital after 25 years of faithful service. She then worked in the records department at Dyer Police Department, retiring after 20 years of service.
She was a Miami Dolphins fanatic, sometimes traveling cross country to attend live games with her niece, Missy, hoping to catch a glimpse of Dan Marino or Jason Taylor. She was also a Chicago White Sox fan with a special fondness for Tony La Russa. Jan loved the Indianapolis 500, especially driver Buddy Lazier, and attended the big race many years.
In addition, this list reflects Jan’s wide-ranging interests, fun-loving and vibrant personality. She admired U2, the iconic Irish rock band; Hank Williams, Jr., a legendary figure in country music; Will Smith, the actor and musician; the Al Capone era of organized crime; and the iconic Bald Eagle, the symbol of strength and freedom that resonated deeply with her spirit.
She was very passionate about Clydesdale horses, making annual trips to farms in Missouri to visit them. Jan enjoyed all these activities with her family and close friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 11:00 am until the time of her memorial service at 1:00 pm at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322, when Father Charles Niblick will offer a commemorative message and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Erin’s Farm in Hobart, IN. (https://www.erinsfarm.net/donate)
Jan’s family encourages guests to wear Chicago White Sox and Miami Dolphins gear in celebration of her lifelong passions—while humorously requesting no Chicago Cubs apparel, as a nod to her well-known team loyalties.
