Joanna Cather

Joanna Cather, age 80, of Gary, IN, passed away surrounded by her family on March 21, 2026. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James Cather; children, Robin (Brian) Cather-Groene and James R. Cather; grandchildren, Christopher (Rochelle), Courtney (Albert), Savannah (Tom), and Alex; great-grandchildren, Liam, Micah, Selena, and Liam; siblings, Karen (late Ronnie) and Donny; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joanna was preceded in death by her siblings, Richard, Carol, Kathy, David, and Danny; and parents, Richard and Mildred Vanatti.

As per her wishes, Joanna has been cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joanna found joy in life’s simple pleasures; watching her favorite game shows, spending quiet afternoons crocheting, and sharing laughter-filled moments with those she held dear.

Joanna’s greatest happiness came from time spent with her children and great-grandchildren. She cherished every visit, every story, and every smile, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Her gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to her family will never be forgotten.
