Joyce Ann Popka, age 72, of Highland passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011. She was born March 1, 1939 in Echols, KY to the late Annie and William A. Minton, and raised by aunts, the late Mabel Bailey and the late Eva Shaver. She was a graduate of T.F. South High School and a life-long member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Highland. Joyce is survived by her loving husband, John, with whom she was married 52 years, and daughters, Michelle Weaver of Highland and Krisann Armstrong of Munster. Joyce is also survived by her best buddy, grandson Jonathan Armstrong. She is survived by sisters Mae Drennon, Doris Mayfield, and Anita Novak, and many nieces, nephews and family. Joyce was preceded in death by brothers Mitchell Minton and Spencer Minton. Joyce especially loved the members of her extended family, who are too numerous to name here, and was grateful for their love and support. Due to Joyce’s efforts, no injured bird ever went unassisted and no stray animal ever went hungry. Her warmth, compassion and sense of humor will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 11, at 10:00 AM at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3711 Ridge Road, Highland, IN with Pastor David Trexler officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Memory Lane, 15200 Lincoln Avenue, Dolton, IL. Visitation will take place at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, August 10. Memorials may be given in Joyce’s name to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church
