Joyce L. Starkey, age 87, of Hammond, passed away on June 29, 2018 at her residence.

Joyce was born June 30, 1930 in East Chicago, IN to the late Andrew and Blanche Ypma.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, David (Cindy) Starkey and Karen Starkey; grandchildren, Robert (Becka) Starkey and Sara (Jake) Owens; great grandchild, Liam Starkey

Joyce was a lifelong resident of Hessville. She was an executive secretary for 35 years for the Internal Revenue Service and retiring from Correct Piping Company in Gary. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Joyce was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Private family services will be conducted at a later date.

Dear Karen....I am so,so sorry for your loss!! Got the shock of my life when I opened my paper this morning! You two have been on my mind so much lately and now I know why. Thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. She was such a special lady and she will be missed by so many! She was always a very treasured friend to my Mom, and now they're back together...and having a grand time, I'm sure!!! Love and prayers to you and your family.

Oh, Karen....I am so sorry for your loss. I will never forget the beautiful words your mom shared with me at Marks wake. I will remember that day because she was so kind to me and the rest of our happy she was able to love so many people.

Joyce was a neighbor of mine. Her parents lived next door to mine. She was only 6 yrs. older than me and she treated me like a little sister. She was one of the nicest persons. She will be missed by her family as Grandma's always are.
