Juan Carlos Cruz

Juan Carlos Cruz, age 69, of Hammond, IN, passed away on April 17, 2026. He is survived by his siblings, Emily, Victor, Ray, Letty, and Jennifer Matias; nephews Brian (Kelly), Andrew, Joseph, and Zachary Matias; former spouses Patrice and Diane; and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Juan was preceded in death by his wife, Shelley Cruz; father Victor Matias Sr.; and mother Maria Esther Matias.

As per his wishes, Juan has been cremated, and no services will be held.

Juan left behind a legacy of warmth, loyalty, and a deep love for those around him. He was a devoted husband, a caring brother, and a proud uncle who brought kindness and generosity into the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Juan had a passion for sports that was unmistakable. He was a dedicated fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs, cheering them on through every high and low with unwavering loyalty. He also had a special love for NASCAR, finding excitement and joy in every race.

Beyond his interests, Juan will be remembered most for his heart. He was loving, generous, and always willing to lend a hand or offer support. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of togetherness to his family and friends.

He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the stories shared, the traditions carried forward, and the love he gave so freely.
