Kathleen “Kay” (nee Whelan) Bogusz

With beloved family at her side, Kathleen “Kay” Lorraine (nee Whelan) Bogusz passed away July 11, 2020.

Kay was born on January 29, 1944, in East Chicago, IN, to the late Joseph and Patricia Whelan. After attending St. Mary’s grade school in East Chicago, IN, and Bishop Noll High School in Hammond, IN, Kay went on to Holy Cross Nursing School in South Bend, IN, earning her Registered Nursing degree. Kay was a passionate and dedicated nurse throughout her entire career.

Kay is survived by her children, Beth (Brad) Uram of Crown Point, IN; Alison Bogusz of Chicago, IL; Danny Bogusz of Schererville, IN; grandchildren Emily and Thomas Uram of Crown Point, IN; Sister Pat (Vic) Hoffman of Highlands Ranch, CO; nephew Greg (Shelle) Hoffman of Dyer, IN; nieces Kelly (Brian) O’Sullivan of Highlands Ranch, CO; and Kathleen (Mark) Romalia, also of Highlands Ranch, CO. Kay was also blessed with many loving great-nieces, great-nephews, family and dear friends. Kay is preceded in death by her newborn daughter, Jody Bogusz; brother, Joseph Whelan; and sister, Barbara “Babs” Whelan.

Kay was an avid sports fan whose interests included the Cubs, college football, the PGA, and March Madness. A Jeopardy and Scrabble enthusiast, Kay had a feisty competitive spirit. Her best days were spent with family and friends fishing on the dock, playing games, or soaking up the sunshine.

A Funeral Mass and celebration of life will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, July 30th, at St. Maria Goretti Parish, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, IN, 46311. Face masks and social distancing are required. Kuiper Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
