LaVerne A. Broviak, age 90, of Highland, passed away peacefully June 22, 2026. She was born to the late John J. and Edith (née Flading) Ormand in McKeesport, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Mary Walsh Ormand; her husband of over 54 years, James A. Broviak; and her siblings, Marie, John, Gerald, Eileen, and Patricia.
LaVerne met the love of her life, Jim, while working at Lever Bros. in Hammond, but she spent the majority of her working life managing dozens of newspaper carriers for The Hammond Times.
She leaves behind five (plus a bonus) children; Jeanne Marie, John, Chris, Bart, and A.J. (Stacy); five grandchildren, Brianna (Brandon) Mercier, Bryce (fiancée Caidi), Maverick, Griffin, Cole; her extended family the Ryskamps; as well as many nieces and nephews.
LaVerne spent hours making amazing works of art through needlepoint, which she shared with her family though stockings, annual ornaments, and more. She was strong and courageous during her many medical battles, through it all staying in her home, receiving loving care from her family, especially during the last five years by her son, John, and daughter, Jeanne Marie.
She was a loving and active participant in her grandkids' lives. Our Sunday family dinners will never be the same. In keeping with her giving nature, LaVerne donated her body to medical science.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.KuiperFH.com for the Broviak family.
