

Leroy Watson was born on December 10, 1943, to the late Leroy Hogan and Mable Watson. He peacefully departed this earthly life on July 18, 2026. He was one of nine children and was raised in a loving family where faith was the cornerstone of his upbringing. At an early age, Leroy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and his faith remained an important part of his life throughout the years.
Known affectionately as “Should’na” by his family, Leroy was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. He dedicated 58 years of working at LTV Steel, where he demonstrated a strong work ethic, commitment, and perseverance. Leroy retired in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and determination that reflected the kind of man he was throughout his life.
Leroy will be remembered for the life he lived, the love he shared, and the lasting memories he created with his family and friends. His strength, caring heart, and enduring spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Hogan and Mable Watson; his brother, Cornell Watson; his sister, Sylvia Johnson; and his brother, Gregory Watson.
Leroy leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 52 years, Dr. Emma Watson; his beloved children, Patrick (Harriette) Watson, Orlando (Shelia) Mills, Gena Orr, and Tyieashia Watson; his cherished grandchildren, Joshua Watson, Marc’hetta Orr, Tyariana Curry, Journey Humphrey, Jaliyah Thompson, Marcelis Mills, Khadijah Mills, Aalyah Goodwin, VeJay Norwood, and Sheldun Norwood; his great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Anniya, Aaliyah, Kaiden, Taleah, Le’Aunna, Omari, and Luzuko; his loving siblings, Patricia (Ricky) Griffin, Jeannie Watson, Carolyn (Eugene) Massey, Anthony Watson, and Tandeleaya Ollison; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Leroy’s faith, love, and devotion to his family will remain his enduring legacy. Though he has departed this earthly life, the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
A visitation for Leroy will be held Friday, July 31, 2026, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at New Community Church, 14801 Lincoln Avenue, Dolton, IL 60419. The wake will occur from 10:00 - 11:00 am on Saturday, August 1, 2026, also at New Community Church, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm. The committal is scheduled to take place immediately afterward at Oakland Memory Lanes, 15200 Lincoln Avenue, Dolton, IL 60419.
