OBITUARY
Oscar Guillen Sr.
May 28, 1957 – January 4, 2020
IN THE CARE OF
Kuiper Funeral Home
Oscar Guillén Sr, 62, of Black Oak, Indiana, passed away in his home on January 4, 2020. He was born May 28, 1957 to Álvaro and Celía(Nunez) Guillén, in Gary, Indiana, the youngest of seven. He graduated from Morton High School in 1975.
For most of his 20s and 30s he traveled with work as a Lineman that allowed him to experience and live in multiple states including Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. A tragic death to his son Gabriel Guillén brought him back to Indiana where he has lived since. He was known as a “jack of all trades” yet focused most of his career in construction, specifically roofing. Oscar was always known for his playful disposition, youthful spirit and good hearted soul. He enjoyed his motorcycles, fishing, spending time with his lifelong friends, dogs, and visiting family. If you’ve ever met him you would never forget him.
He is survived by his sons Oscar Guillén II (Forest, IN), Álvaro Guillén III (Lafayette, IN), Joshua Guillen (Valparaiso, IN) daughter Samantha Guillen (Lincoln, NE); 5 grandchildren, Joshua Jr., Joseph, Kayden, Christian, and Bella; Siblings: Delia Martinez ( Hessville, IN), Alvaro Guillén II ( Valparaiso, IN), Martha Guillen ( Hammond, IN), George Guillen (Griffith, IN), Yolanda & Donald McCorkle (South Haven, IN), and Elizabeth Guillen (Peoria, AZ); and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvaro and Celia, and his son Gabriel Guillén. A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd (two blocks south of Ridge RD) Highland, IN. Our family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Kuiper Funeral Home & Crematory for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult and time.
