Patrick J McGing

Beloved husband of the late Mary McGing, (nee Homan). Loving father of the late Kevin (Lisa) McGing, surviving children Brian (Phoebe) McGing, and Maureen (Gary Adzia) McGing. Cherished grandfather of Gregory (Kristen) McGing, Lindsey (Joe Straub) McGing, Daniel McGing, Bryce (Tiara) McGing, Bailey McGing, Robert McKee and Larissa Harris. Great-grandchildren Kacie Mary, Braden, Jaxon and Levi. He is the beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his siblings Michael (Geri) McGing, Margaret Mary (Gene) Wolanin, grandchildren Melissa McGing and Lawrence Harris and parents Michael and Margaret (Hart) McGing.

Patrick was a United States Korean War Army Veteran. He retired from Unilever (Lever Brothers) after many years of dedicated service, never having missed one day of work in all those years. On his final day of work his nephew David orchestrated a limousine to be driven into the plant to pick him up and whisk him away for a day of merriment.

Patrick loved his family and friends from his hometown of Hammond, IN to his “Florida Forever” home at Paradise Island in Largo, FL. Patrick was a man of many talents, he was an accomplished musician playing the saxophone, clarinet and his favorite concertina which his mother sent to him while he was in Korea. He also had a lovely tenor voice and loved to sing or play his saxophone in talent shows from his home church of OLPH in Hammond to the stage at Paradise Island in Florida. It brought him great joy to perform his signature version of Danny Boy.

While traveling in Ireland in 1999 he even performed Danny Boy at a local pub. That trip included pouring a pint behind the bar at McGing’s Irish pub in Westport Ireland and kissing the Blarney Stone.

Pat and Mary were married for 54 years before she passed in 2012. Prior to her passing they traveled and enjoyed retirement life fully. Pat continued living in Florida after Mary’s passing where he met a special friend, Peg Grant, and they enjoyed traveling as well. Pat moved back to Indiana for needed care and support in 2023.

Patrick will be deeply missed. Whether you knew him as Dad, Gramps, Uncle or Friend all of us will have plenty of wonderful stories to retell of his exploits and especially of his “Patism’s” from “I’ll tell the world” to “We’ll work something out”, he had a million one-liners. He was a devoted husband, father and friend to all. He was a legend. While he is gone physically from us, his memory will always be alive in our hearts.

Services for Patrick will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at Serenity Gardens in Largo, Fl
