Ramon Chavez, age 87, of Texas passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015. Ramon is survived by Lala (nee Flores)his wife of 64 years; sons: John (Rita) Chavez of Schererville and Julian Chavez of Crown Point; daughter Norma Griffith of Crown Point; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Ramon was preceded in death by grandson Michael R. Chavez. Funeral services will be held DIRECTLY at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 1 Wilhelm St, Schererville, IN on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Martin Dobrzynski, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday March 15, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN (two blocks south of Ridge Road). A prayer service will be held Sunday evening. Ramon was a member of St. Jude and San Juan Catholic churches in Texas. He retired from Inland Steel after 35 years of service.
