For Rogelio, family was the heart of everything. A devoted husband, proud father, and joyful grandfather, he built a warm and loving home with his wife, Mary Isabel Oria (née Rodriguez). Together, they raised four children: Rogelio (Raquel), Felipe Y. (Maria de Los Angeles), Angelica, and Gilberto. His ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy, each one a reflection of his enduring spirit and love.
Born on October 23, 1941, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, Rogelio was the beloved son of Antonio Oria and Julia Retana. At the age of 18, he began a long and dedicated career at Inland Steel, retiring at 55 after decades of hard work. His tireless commitment and quiet strength served as a lasting example to his family and community.
Beyond his work, Rogelio embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. He loved playing softball and volleyball, and was an avid cyclist, often riding from Northwest Indiana to Michigan City. He found peace and joy in nature, especially under the stars on camping trips.
Rogelio’s sharp wit and playful sayings like “Same old, same old” and “Liar, liar, fire in your pants” brought laughter and light to all who knew him. His humor, warmth, and generosity will be remembered with deep affection.
He is survived by his siblings, Antonio Oria and Sylvia Guerra, as well as extended family members and countless friends who will miss him dearly. Rogelio’s life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and family and it is a reminder that the bonds of family are what truly matter in the end.
