Roger Carlin Butler

Roger leaves behind his very large family consisting of his beloved wife, Nellie (nee Rainey) Butler; four children, David (Audrey) Butler, Carmela (Roger) Stewart, Stacey Vorgias, and Laura Bradley; eight grandchildren, Charles, Tiffany (Ryan), Tabatha (Tyrone), Tara, William, Antonio, Crystal, and Stacy; 13 great-grandkids, Faith, Addie, Kalee, Emily, Madison, Tyana, Tyrone, Bryan, Jaden, Tamera, Mickel, Carlin, and Chloe; siblings, Janice (Lyle), Susie, Bobby, and Lucy (Harold); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is welcomed into eternity by his parents, Jay (Marion) and Helen Butler; mother and father-in-law, Homer and Virginia Rainey; and siblings, Bill, David, Karen, Maryann, Claude, Joey, Ramond, Jennie, Richard, Mike, and Debbie.

Roger is described by his family as a simple man with very traditional values. His work ethic surpassed many. He was always a provider for his family and enjoyed many nights sitting in his outdoor chair in the garage, watching cars drive by. His passion for working on cars extended to teaching his children what to look for under the hood. His family will miss his love of gardening and the various things he planted. He truly did enjoy his career in the Local 81 Union as a Laborer. That word, alone, embodied who he was. A working man who loved his family more than anything and protected them fiercely. His best friend had four legs and, surprisingly, was not a dog, though Roger always referred to his cat as a dog. His cat, Ninja, will live on in his memory and in the thoughts of those near and dear to him.

A Public Visitation for Roger will be held Monday, February 14, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322. His Funeral Service will occur on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Jason Rodgers will officiate the service. Burial to follow with Military Honors at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
