Rosemary Dolores Anderson was born in San Diego, California, to Roy W. “Andy” Anderson and Rosemary M. Tietjens.
The family relocated to El Cajon in the mid 1950s. Rose graduated from Grossmont High School, and went on to study at San Diego Junior College, and San Diego State College, graduating with a bachelor’s in History in 1962. She was torn between furthering her education, or serving her country in the Army, when she met a young Naval officer, Dennis Amb, in 1962. They married May 15, 1963, spending the first years of their marriage at various naval bases in California and Virginia.
After the Navy, Dennis went to work for the General Electric Company, relocating the family to the Chicago area in late 1967. Rosemary worked tirelessly as a wife and mother, and devoted daughter, spending extended biennial summer vacations back in California, to help out her parents. In the other years, the family traveled the United States and Canada extensively, concentrating on historical sites and national parks. Rose earned the nickname “The Mad Shutterbug”, documenting each trip with hundreds of photographs.
After raising their daughter, Dennis and Rose continued their travels, adding cruises throughout the Carribean, as well as Alaska, Hawaii, and several trips to Europe, so Rose could finally see the sites she had studied in college. She enjoyed reading, especially English and Scottish history, and watching historical movies and TV shows.
Along with her husband and parents, Rose was predeceased by her sister, Katie A. Anderson. She is survived by her daughter Victoria Elaine “Vikki” (Jeff) Lesniak of Ellicott City, MD.
Rosemary will be entombed privately at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.
