Ruth E. Petersen Sfura

Ruth Sfura, age 96, of Highland, IN, passed away on November 10, 2014 at the William J. Riley Residence. She was born on February 18, 1918 in East Chicago, graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended Depauw University. She is survived by her two loving sons, Thomas (Maureen) Sfura of Louisville, KY and Richard (Mary) Sfura of Munster; four grandchildren: Richard(Melissa) Sfura of Indianapolis, IN, Jon (Izabella) Sfura of Lake Villa IL, Matthew (Leslie) Sfura of Normal IL, Stephanie (Dajhan) van Rooyen of Clermont FL; 12 great grandchildren: Amanda (Cody), Kyle, Brady, Cayla, Jennifer, Madeline, David, Joshua, Amber, Cornelius and Samuel; one great great-grandchild d'Artagnan; three cousins: Allen Petersen of Munster, Richard Williams of California, and George Griner of Highland) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Sfura Jr.; parents, Hans and Sylvia Petersen; brother, Howard Petersen and sister, Sylvia Wendelken. Funeral services will be held at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Linda Skaggs officiating. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Visitation will be at Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014. Ruth was a lifelong area resident-58 years in East Chicago and the last 38 years in Highland. She was also a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of East Chicago and later the First Presbyterian Church of Highland. The loves of her life were her husband John and her large extented family. She especially enjoyed reading, music, flowers and her cottage on Pretty Lake. A special thank you to the Home Healthcare Group of Community Hospital in Munster for their wonderful care of our Mom. She will be greatly missed.
