Terry Faye Brackenridge was born on January 24, 1946, in North Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Hazel Brown. Terry was the eldest of five siblings. She accepted the Lord at an early age and remained a faithful member under the leadership of Pastor Ricardo Nicholes.
Terry was a woman of deep faith, loving spirit, and vibrant energy. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing “BINGO,” and often traveled to attend games. Terry was known for her dedication and love for children, working as a Teacher’s Aide at Howe Elementary School in Chicago, IL for four years before transitioning to a Bus Attendant position for 10 years until her retirement in 2001.
Terry was united in holy matrimony to the late Joe Brackenridge. Together they shared a beautiful life filled with love, music, and laughter. Joe was not only her partner but also her favorite in-house card player and dance partner—especially when Johnnie Taylor was playing.
Terry was a proud mother of seven children, whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Brackenridge; her mother, Hazel Brown; her children, James, Jr., Linda, Trina, Annette, and Pamela; and her sister, the late Beverly Venson.
She leaves to cherish her memory:
Her children: Luviner Walker of Elgin, IL, and Ted Hairston of Chicago, IL.
Her siblings: one brother, Stanley Brown, and two sisters, Deloris Brown and Joyce Brown, all of Minnesota. 20 grandchildren: Shenna Hairston, Kavis Hairston, Lee Hudspeth, Jequetta Vaughn, Samuel Jones, Jr., Patrice Adams, Eulean Smith, Beatrice (Chris) Smith, Nathan Smith, Tiffany (Jonathan) Wright, Janell Winters, William Winters III, Derrick Winters, Lil Larry Brown, Anna (Keith), Shanika, Kayla, Aaron, Prince, and Kanisha. 43 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. She will be deeply missed.
A Tribute from Her Children
We had a wonderful mother
One who never really grew old
Her smile was made of sunshine
And her heart was solid gold
Her eyes were as bright as shining stars
And in her cheeks fair roses
You see we had a wonderful mother
And that’s the way it will always be
Luviner (Cheryl)
“Somewhere in my heart, beneath all my grief and pain
Is a smile I still wear at the sound of your dear name
The precious word is ‘Mother’—she was my world, you see
But now my heart is breaking, ’cause she’s no longer here with me
I’ll carry you in my heart, Mama
Your baby boy Ted
