Thomas Vlahos

Thomas Vlahos, age 89, of LaPorte, IN, formerly of Griffith, IN passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015. He is survived by his four daughters: Karen Russell of Winamac, IN, Kathy (Tom) Nichol of Hessville, IN, Gayle (Tim) Pierson of Griffith, IN and Kristin (Karl) Winscher of LaPorte, IN; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. Mr. Vlahos was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, June Vlahos (nee Prahlow); two sisters: Darlene Smolinski and Lucia Stevenson; and one brother, James Miller. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN with Rev. Theodore Mens officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Monday, May 18, 2015 from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. (prayer service 5:30 p.m.) at Kuiper Funeral Home. Tom was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Griffith, IN and retired from the City of Hammond as an operating engineer. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his love of playing the lottery.
