Mrs. Alene (Henry Hampton) Howell, born in Daytona Beach in 1924, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2020, surrounded by her loving family and caring staff at Dominion Senior Living of Hixson, TN.
Alene is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hamp, to whom she was married for fifty-five years before his passing. She has missed Hamp for 18 years, and is now reunited with him in heaven. She is also preceded by her three younger brothers who fought with distinction in World War II… Jimmy, Russell, and Richard, all of Atlanta, her parents (Bonnie and Seward) of Atlanta, and two nephews, David Hart and Darren Hart, both of Atlanta.
Survivors are her three children; Hollye Eubanks (David, deceased) of Dalton, GA, Leslie Loven (Dr. Keith) of Hendersonville, TN, and Tripp Howell (Jennifer) of Soddy Daisy, TN, precious grandchildren who she loved dearly, Leah Loven, Bethany Loven Helms, Mary Hampton Howell, and a host of attentive nieces and nephews. She was especially fond of her last remaining older relative, Mr. Fred Stuart of Harrison, Maine, and his daughter, Jane Day of Ponte Verde Beach, FL.
Alene enjoyed a full life! Blessed with countless groups of friends from her church, the old Stuart Heights neighborhood, Hamp’s TVA, and from the Continental Condominium, where she enjoyed living for many years. First Centenary United Methodist Church was her rock, as she and Hamp had ben members since 1948, and where she and Hamp partnered with many other newlywed couples to form the Yomaco Class. Many couples from these groups became cherished lifelong friends, playing bridge, going on interesting trips, golf outings, and the fun Saturday evening bar be que parties at their respective homes.
All know Alene’s penchant for talking. With her passing, that voice and personality will be much missed…
Burial will be attended by the immediate family at Chattanooga National Cemetery. A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
Our family cannot adequately express our gratitude for the exceptional care given by the staff at Dominion Sr. Living. The ladies were her second family-they helped us through this difficult time with compassion, humorous stories, and strength.
Thanks to all you BABES!
