Born January 30, 1971, Alison was adopted by Janice and Jerry Tedford, both teachers. Jerry was also a musician, and Alison grew up surrounded by music, travel and adventure. During her childhood, the family lived in Pakistan, Iran and Scotland and traveled extensively.
Alison later grew up in Roswell, Georgia, and graduated from Milton High School in 1989. As a gifted artist, she attended Young Harris College on an art scholarship and became part of Phi Delta, Class of ’92. Her Phi Delta sisters became lifelong friends, and Alison kept them connected through reunions over the years.
On November 27, 1994, Alison married Mark Songer at First Baptist Church of Roswell. She helped Mark establish his dental practice. Years later, Alison designed his new dental office. Through the years, she brought her artistic and creative eye to their homes and rental properties built with family including the River House, Pinecrest, and Sleepy Hollow.
When Nate was born on July 17, 2001, he was an answer to prayer and one of the greatest joys of Alison’s life. As an adopted child, seeing so much of herself in her son was especially profound.
Alison’s creativity followed her everywhere. Always stylish, she loved fashion and had an eye for what was next. She eventually turned that passion into N2 Shoes, a boutique she opened on Chattanooga’s North Shore and owned and operated for seven years.
Alison was just as comfortable outdoors. She loved camping, fly fishing, and being on the water. Bear Paw NC on Lake Hiwassee has been their happy place for 20 years. Every weekend and holidays were filled with family and friends on the lake. Most recently, Alison organized the Bear Paw Beautification Committee.
She designed projects and inspired others to make a place she loved even better. She was a natural hostess and the planner behind countless parties, reunions and gatherings. She loved the details—the music, decoration, food and setting—but what mattered most was always the people who filled the room.
Alison always said she hit the jackpot—with the parents who chose her, with Mark, with Nate, and with the remarkable circle of friends she gathered and kept throughout her life. Those who were loved by her know that they were the ones who hit the jackpot.
Alison was preceded in death by her parents, Janice and Jerry Tedford.
She is survived by her husband, Mark; her son, Nate; her sisters, Susan (David Cutcliff) and Carol (Josh Gadd); her sister- and brothers-in-law, Sheree and Clint Crowe, Brent Songer and Shane Songer; many beloved nieces and nephews, including Paxton, Emily (Thomas Riordan), Luke, Ashly, Stacey, Ryan, Chase, Cade, Sara and Carson, along with great-niece Scarlet and great-nephew Bastian.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Bear Paw Beautification Committee. Details available on the website.
