Alta Jean Weir

Alta Jean Green Weir, 85, of Chattanooga, TN, went home to be with her Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2015 . She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeff Chaffin, her granddaughters, Bethany Chaffin and Amanda Chaffin Carleo,

(Duane), her brother, Ben Green (Linda), sisters Frieda Wieck (Keith), Ruth Henderson (Bill) and Brenda Green Lund (Pete), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Colville Conner Weir, her son, Robert Carl Weir, her parents, William O and Edith Sparks Green, and her brothers, Paul (Barbara), Robert Thomas, and Billy Vann Green, nephew Brian Green, as well as many aunts and uncles. Jean was born in Dayton, Tennessee, and was a graduate of Rhea Central High School and Bryan College. She was proud to be a retired school teacher, having taught at Russell Brown Elementary School, Rhea County High School, Brainerd High School, and Red Bank High School. She was a devoted member of Burks United Methodist Church in Hixson, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or Oxford Graduate School in Dayton, TN.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 11-1 at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel. Funeral service for Alta will be conducted at 1 pm on Saturday, May 16,2015 in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Amy Nutt officiating. Interment will follow to Rhea Memorial Gardens, in Dayton, TN.
