George Alvin Duncan, age 85, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024. He was born January 20, 1939 in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated from North High School. He then went on to Vanderbilt University and in 1961 graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. In August of that same year Alvin married the love of his life, Barbara Faye Overstreet, and they eventually moved to Chattanooga in 1966 where he began his decades long career with TVA. After taking early retirement from TVA, he spent 17 years working for Mesa Associates.
Alvin was a devoted husband, father and brother, loving G-Daddy to his grandsons, loyal Commodores fan in good seasons and in bad (Anchor Down!), and a friend to all. He enjoyed long conversations and good belly laughs shared with family, friends, or strangers, and always had a silly joke at the ready. Above all else he loved the Lord and loved worshipping with and serving alongside his church families at Lake Hills and East Brainerd Churches of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mallie Kitchens Duncan, and twin brother, Joseph Calvin Duncan.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Duncan; son, Mark Duncan (fiancé Kelly Michelle Conner); daughters, Kelley (Dodd) Hartness and Kim (John) Spruiell; grandchildren, Anthony (Caitlin) Duncan, Coty McDowell, Ralston (Elle) Hartness, Graham Hartness, Peyton (Alicyn) Duncan, Walker Spruiell, and Jarred Duncan; great-grandchildren, Mallie Hartness and Ronan Duncan; and many loving friends and extended family.
