

Alvin Charles Ramsey Jr, age 81, of Hixson, passed away on April 7, 2022 at Dominion of Hixson. Alvin was born on March 25, 1941 to Alvin and Evelyn Ramsey in Birmingham, Alabama. Known to his family as Tony, he grew up in Gadsden and Auburn, Alabama and went on to study Industrial Engineering at Auburn University.
Upon graduation in 1964, he started his first job at Burlington Industries in Rockwood, Tennessee. While at Burlington Industries, Alvin developed a reputation as one of the smartest young engineers and cemented relationships with career-long colleagues Eddie Liendecker and Jack Tucker. Also, while working in Rockwood, Alvin met Wilda O’Neal at a Dale Carnegie class and married her in 1968. While with Burlington Industries, the family moved to North Carolina. In 1973, Alvin rejoined his former colleagues at Pro Group producing golf equipment and apparel. With family moves to Connecticut and Arkansas, Alvin quickly rose through the ranks to become the Executive Vice President at age 40 in 1981 and the family settled in Hixson. At the conclusion of his illustrious career at Pro Group, he had climbed to the role of Chief Operating Officer of Pro Group and President of Duckster Incorporated.
After his years at Pro Group, Alvin started two successful businesses, Lifetime Brake and Muffler in Dalton, Georgia, and AAMCO Transmission on Lee Highway in Chattanooga. Alvin was blessed with two individuals, Landon Brooks and Clayton Gann, who became trusted business partners and close personal friends. The businesses provided Alvin with 15 years of joy in the freedom of being his own boss. As an owner, he cared for his employees as family and mentored them in business and in life.
Alvin loved spending time at the lake and on the beach. He loved to brag about the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. His hobbies included cheering his Auburn Tigers and Atlanta Braves, smoking meat, making sausage, and knife sharpening. He was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church.
Alvin was preceded in death by father Alvin Charles Ramsey, mother Evelyn Cockrell Crabtree, bother Jack Ramsey, and sister Janice Ramsey. He is survived by his wife Wilda Ramsey, brother James Ramsey, son Ed Guffee (Ann Elise), daughter Kristi Rice (Kevin), son Craig Ramsey (Amie), and grandchildren Andrew Guffee, Brannon Guffee, Chase Rice, Brooks Rice, Kaleigh Rice, Jimmy Ramsey, John Ramsey, and Sara Beth Ramsey.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-12:30 Monday, April 11 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 in the chapel. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
