

Margaret Ann Owens Taylor of Hixson was born on May 31, 1937, in Chattanooga, TN, the second daughter of Horace and Clara (Lawrence) Owens. She passed away peacefully on June 14 after a brief illness at the age of 89, surrounded by the family she held so dearly, and ran into the glory of Heaven to meet her Savior, Jesus, and to reunite with her loved ones. She was a member of Dallas Bay Church.
Ann was a sports enthusiast, especially her Atlanta Braves. She not only loved watching sports but also was quite an athlete. She was a competitive tennis player in her youth. Ann was a champion bowler who won the TN Women's Singles Championship twice. She served as the president of the Women's Bowling Association in Chattanooga for 12 years. She was also quite a softball player, finally hanging up her glove at age 50. Ann was also a scholar.
She graduated early from City High School in 1953 after skipping a grade in elementary school. She was employed by TVA at age 16, their youngest employee at that time. She went on to work as a paralegal for Stophel, Caldwell and Heggie, working for Tom Caldwell. She wrote the charter for the Tennessee Aquarium. She retired from Baker Donaldson in 1999 after 35 years of working in law offices.
Ann was musical, playing both piano and ukulele.
She met and married the love of her life, Dan Taylor, in 1984. They were married for 40 years. She served with him in the local Vietnam Veterans Association.
She loved hosting holiday and birthday gatherings in her home. A packed house was a happy house.
Ann loved traveling to Daytona Beach and did so from infancy to 2025 with her family.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and her dear sister, Barbara Owens Freeney.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Collins (Tim) of Hixson, Lisa Dennis (Chris) of Soddy Daisy, stepson Vince (Shawnda) Taylor of Joplin, MO; her adored grandchildren Eric Collins (Carla) of Cleveland, TN, Josh Kirby (Tifton) of
Chattanooga, Jill Collins of Chattanooga, Adam Kirby (Alecia) of Chattanooga; her precious great-granddaughters Zara and Wren. She is also survived by nieces and nephew Carolyn (Don) Johnson of Hixson, Donna (Dan) Lazenby of Eclectic AL, Jim (Flavia) Freeney of Millbrook, AL, and a host of great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family was so important to her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17th from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm and from 10:30 to 11:30 Thursday, with a Celebration of Life Thursday, June 18th at 11:30 am. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 at National Cemetery, Chattanooga.
