Faye was born in Benton, Illinois to the late Carl and Hazel Simmons. She graduated from the Baroness Erlanger Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and was a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. Faye worked at the Hamilton County Health Department where she retired as director of nursing in 1988. She was a member of Middle Valley Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Johnson;
Faye is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Bill) Roberts, Susan (Joe) Downs and Debra (Roger) Franks; eight grandchildren, Sherry (Mike) Kean, Kevin (Tracey) Roberts, Jenny (Mike) Richardson, Tracy (Rick) Bonner, Crissy (Nathan) Harrold, Jennifer (Jonathan) Durham, Jason (Meredith) Franks and Zachary (Kayla) Franks; sixteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Fern Slater, Dot Broome and Polly (Johnny) Steave; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
A Celebration of Life Service for Faye will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Gary Scott officiating where she will be laid to rest by her late husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Faye’s name to Middle Valley Baptist Church or the Community Kitchen.
