

Mrs. Jan was a 1964 graduate of Ming Chuan College in Taipei,
Taiwan.
She and her husband Steve H. Jan have lived in the Chattanooga
area since 1967 after immigrating from Taiwan.
Austine owned and operated the Taiwan Express restaurant at the
Freight Depot, and the Indoor Flea Market on East 23rd Street. She
was also one of the original founders of the Chinese Association
and the Chinese School of Chattanooga.
As an American citizen, Austine remained a strong supporter for
democracy in Taiwan through the North America Taiwanese
Women’s Association.
She was preceded in death by her son Richard Jan, (D. '04) a
McCallie graduate ('89).
Austine is survived by her husband Steve H. Jan, her daughter
Margaret Jan (Alex Sung Chi), her grandsons Noah and Wesley Chi,
granddaughter Daphne Chi, and many siblings, cousins, nieces and
nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home in Hixson, TN.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time on Saturday at the North Chapel Chattanooga Funeral Home.
