She was born in Cullman County, Alabama to the late Harley and Burnie Fortner.
Ms. Bea during World War II worked in the Textile Industry in the Cotton Mills making the materials for the parachutes during the War. She later worked in the food industry at Shoney’s and Hardees on Signal Mountain making the biscuits. Ms. Bea was a member of the Free Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Mitchell Odell Newton; a daughter, Doris Peak; and her nine brothers, Aubrey, Kenneth, Roy, Morgan, Homer, Larry, Wayne, Genis and Lewis Fortner.
Ms. Bea is survived by her daughters, Marie Newton and Margie Raines; two grandchildren, Jerry Raines (Julie) and Lisa Carroll; great grandchildren, Dewayne Bingham, Hannah Carroll, Aliyah Raines and Aidan Raines; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 31, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Bea’s life will follow at 2:30 on Saturday, at the North Chapel. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
