Betsye Ruth Holmes was born August 27, 1932, in Draper (now part Eden), North Carolina. She eventually moved with her parents, Robert Charles Anderson and Ruth Anderson to Rossville, Georgia. On Monday, February 2nd she passed away at her residence at the precious age of 93.
She attended Notre Dame High School, got married and had two children, Frances Lee Patterson and Robert Charles Patterson.
She began her very successful career as a beautician attending cosmetology school and eventually worked her way up to owning her own successful business, Hairstyles by Betsye, as well as doing platform work for Clairol and Zotos nationwide for almost 15 years.
Betsye and her husband, Jerry, were adventurers after retirement, having enjoyed many days of extended travel on their own yacht. They made many trips between Chattanooga and South Florida via the Mississippi River and, the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Their cruises included numerous visits to South Florida, the Gulf coast, the Bahama's, Florida Keys, and the East coast.
Betsye was also a talented interior decorator and applied this talent professionally to each of the boats she and Jerry acquired over the years, as well as her own home.
Her hobbies included remodeling of yachts, reading and a love of music and dancing. She was loved by many people for her caring and giving personality, and for the love those around her felt in her
presence.
She is survived by her loving husband (the love of her life), Gerald E. “Jerry” Holmes; her daughter Frances Patterson Rinehart (Jim); sons Robert Charles Patterson, and David Michael Holmes (Colleen); seven grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. The funeral service will be in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 Saturday. Entombment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
