Betty R Hafley

Bettye Ray Hafley, 87, of Soddy Daisy, TN, passed away on February 24, 2023. Born and raised in Scottsboro, AL, she moved to Chattanooga after high school and worked at DuPont, where she met her husband, Fred. Bettye was a talented seamstress who raised 3 daughters with her husband and later went to work at Chandlers Fabrics. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Central Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred Hafley, her father Clyde Ray and mother Sarah Ray, brothers Bob Ray, Scott Ray, sister Sheila Beard, and nephew Greg Ray.

Bettye is survived by daughters Lisa Hafley Barnes, Kerri (Richard) Carmack, Tracy (Keith) Brumley; grandchildren Renee (Brandon) Tidwell, Kristin Barnes, Jonathan (Dana) Carmack, and Reid Carmack; great-grandchildren Henry and Sam Tidwell; sister Cathy (Phil) Thomason, one niece and several nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 1 at 1:00pm EST with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made either to Martin Boyd Christian Home, [email protected], or the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Martin Boyd Christian Home and the physicians, nursing and patient care staff at CHI Chattanooga Memorial Hospital for their care a compassion.
