Born in Jackson County, Alabama, Betty was a loving mother and was one of the finest cooks in the south. She was connected deeply with nature and animals and appreciated a good campfire from which she could watch the stars. She was an accomplished decorator, gardener and seamstress. She enjoyed creating arrangements from "weeds," such as Queen Ann's Lace and Golden Rods, and delighted in the calls of whip-poor-wills and the changing of the seasons. The birds could always find a meal waiting for them at Mrs. Hodge's home, and she would name her feathered friends who stopped by for a visit. She was retired from the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Vivian McCrary, husbands John T. Hodge and Donald R. Haggard, son Terry Haggard, daughter Trina Haggard Miller, grandson Michael Haggard and granddaughter April Haggard.
She is survived by her daughter Tralisa Haggard, granddaughter Shannon Sizemore, grandson Dallas Shumaker (Alexandria), six great grandchildren - Corbin, Hunter, Ansley, Amylou, Riley and Molly Grace; sister Jane Ballard, special niece Vicki Ballard, son in law Allen Miller, special friend Harriet Miller, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved rescued feline companion, "Tomasina".
