

He was born January 1, 1931, in Brownsville, Tn., to the late Arvil Odell Dowdy and Alma Juanita Bright Dowdy.
Bill was a graduate of Red Bank High School. He earned his ChE in 1954 and his MS ChE in 1963 at Georgia School of Technology. For 33 years, he was employed by DuPont, serving 30 of those years as a chemical engineer at the Chattanooga DuPont Plant.
He was an active member of First Centenary United Methodist Church serving as 2°d Vice President of the Ault Pacemaker's Class. He was a member of the Chattanooga Georgia Tech Club, the Pachyderm Club, the Quarterback Club, President for a number of years of the Pet Placement Center in Red Bank, and was an avid lover of animals.
Proceeding Mr. Dowdy in death, in addition to his parents, was his sister, Juanita Dowdy Patterson.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years. Katherine Brock Dowdy, a brother, Don Dowdy, and his wife, Carolyn Dowdy, of Ringgold, Georgia; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 PM on Sunday at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, May 26, at 2: 30 PM, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel with Doctor J. N. Howard and Doctor David Harr officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and Pet Placement Center.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
