Today, our family said goodbye to a very special lady; Blanche Comilla DeVries, who passed away peacefully at the age of 83.
Blanche was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and she was the heart of our family in so many ways. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she later made her home in Soddy Daisy, where she spent most of her life creating a home filled with love, memories, and the things she enjoyed most.
She was the beloved mother of her only child, the late Teresa Lynn Satterfield, grandmother to Holly Newton (Satterfield), and great-grandmother to Roman Newton and Rhealynn Newton. Her great-grandchildren brought a special kind of happiness to her life, and some of her sweetest moments were spent simply playing with them and watching them grow.
Blanche had a love for the simple, beautiful things in life. She enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, crocheting, and cooking. She was someone who could find comfort and joy in creating something with her hands, caring for her garden, preparing a meal, or simply being surrounded by the people she loved.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, R.V. DeVries, who passed away on September 25, 2004. After more than two decades apart, we hope they are together again. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Satterfield (2014).
For those of us who loved Blanche, there will never be another quite like her. We will miss her voice, her smile, her stories, her presence, and all the little things that made her, her. We will miss the moments we thought we’d have more time for and the ordinary days that we now realize were some of the most precious.
Her life will continue through her granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, and every memory she left behind.
Rest peacefully, Nana. You were loved more than words could ever say. And although our hearts are broken that you’re gone, we are grateful for every moment we were blessed to have you. We know you are with our lord and savior, Jesus Christ. We love you always nana and will see you again one day.
The family will receive friends from 11 am until 1 pm on Saturday, October 3, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Services for Blanche will follow at 1 pm on Saturday at the North Chapel. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
