

B. L. “Bob” Martin, age 77, of Hixson, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at his home following a short illness. He was born September 2, 1938 in Deridder, Louisiana to the late Staff Sgt. James Mitchell and Pauline Rhame Martin.
Bob graduated from Vidor High School in Vidor, Texas in 1956 and attended Lamar Institute of Technology for two years. He enlisted and served eight years in the U. S. Navy, attended flight school, and became a pilot. In 1966 he began a career with Delta Airlines as a pilot and retired in 1997 after thirty-one years of service.
As a father in Irving, Texas in the 1970’s Bob developed an avid interest in youth soccer. After moving to Chattanooga in 1977 he became active in the development of the sport locally. He was a T.S.S.A.A recruiter for soccer in southeastern Tennessee.
His sister, Joyce Beistle and brother, James Martin preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Janet Loreen Martin; three sons, Eric (Dreama) Martin, of Soddy Daisy, Blake Martin and Bruce Martin both of Hixson; and five grandchildren, Chase, Chaney, Ella, Hunter, and Aleks Martin.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the North Chapel with Rev. Dr. Al Bowles officiating.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
