Brandon Scott Sloan

A lifelong resident of Signal Mountain, Brandon attended Signal Mountain schools, McCallie School, and Notre Dame High School before graduating from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Business, with a major in Marketing.

As a child, Brandon bravely underwent successful brain surgery and went on to live a full and meaningful life. Decades later, an unexpected complication resulting from that early medical issue led to his sudden passing. He was surrounded by family, friends, and love.

Brandon was a former co-owner of Marco’s in Hixson and, in recent years, had been pursuing other business interests.

Sports were part of Brandon’s life from an early age. He grew up playing soccer and baseball and began umpiring at just 13 years old, continuing into his early twenties. As an adult, he remained an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching games with his family, Aaron, Jacob, and Eric, and debating the teams, players, and plays long after the final whistle. He also loved snow skiing, particularly in Vail, Colorado, and was an accomplished cook and grill master. Among his favorite traditions was an annual fall trip to the mountains of North Carolina, where he spent a week fishing, enjoying the outdoors, and soaking in the hot tub at the end of the day.

Brandon had an engaging personality and a natural ability to talk to just about anyone. He was a fiercely loyal friend, and the friendships he built throughout his life meant a great deal to him. Above all, Brandon loved his mom, Diana, and the two shared an especially close bond. His easy way with people, loyalty to those he cared about, and unmistakable personality left him with friends from every chapter of his life—and just about everywhere he went.

Brandon was deeply loved by his family and had a remarkable circle of friends who became family along the way. He is survived by his mother, Diana Winters Sloan of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; his father, Jerry Sloan (Glenna Ramer) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; his sister, Tara Sloan Jungersen (Eric) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and his half-brothers, Aaron Sloan of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Jacob Sloan of Atlanta, Georgia.

He is also survived by his uncle, Jim Winters (Pam) of East Ridge, Tennessee; his aunt, Joann Stamey of Tunnel Hill, Georgia; and several cousins. Brandon considered Marcy Alford Greenwell (Louisville, Kentucky), Matt Alford (Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas), Brooke Alford (Indianapolis, Indiana), and Julienne Alford (Alameda, California) to be siblings, and he was fortunate to have the longtime friendship and support of his neighbors, Rance and Anne Pitts.

Among Brandon’s lifelong and closest friends were Tommy Duff, A.J. Davidson, Courtney Bowman, and many others whose friendships remained an important part of his life.

And then there was Brandon’s much larger circle: a colorful tribe of like-minded co-conspirators across Signal Mountain and beyond. To many, he was “Sly” or “Sly Dawg.” The origins of the nickname may depend on whom you ask, but his status among his friends was considerably less debatable: Brandon was affectionately known as “A Legend.”

Brandon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Veda and Elmor “Monk” Winters and Jess and Jo Sloan; his aunts and uncles, Jim and Joyce Sloan, Bud and Elaine Sloan, and Archie Stamey.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Chattanooga Funeral Home – North Chapel; 5401 Highway 153; Hixson, Tennessee. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
