Carolyn Jewell Bryant passed away Thursday, June 25th surrounded by family and is now resting in her sweet savior’s arms. She was a faithful member of Calvary Bible Church where she actively served for many years. Carol led her life as a devoted Christian woman. She was greatly influenced by her own mother’s faith, and passed that influence on to her children, leaving a lasting mark for generations to come.
Carol grew up in Gruetli-Laager, TN and graduated from Grundy County High School in 1964. She moved to Chattanooga in 1967 when she married the love of her life, Rayburn. She worked tirelessly to make a wonderful life for her husband and children. Some of her favorite hobbies were baking desserts, yard work and keeping a meticulous house. She was a talented seamstress and especially had a heart for making doll clothes that three generations have enjoyed and will be passed down to future generations.
Carol loved to travel and was a huge Atlanta Braves fan, and enjoyed visiting other baseball stadiums while traveling. Her favorite sports though were any her children and grandchildren played, and she loved nothing more than cheering them on.
Carol enjoyed working at Sears at Northgate Mall for fifteen years, where she met many wonderful people. Her greatest role though was as a wife and mother, grandmother, and now great grandmother to ten children, all under the age of six.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Oma Lee and Dorsey Meeks, a brother, Ricky Meeks and brother-in-law Tommy Burnette.
Left to cherish their wonderful memories are her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Rayburn, daughters Kim (Tim) Huskey and Carmen (Mike) Jenkins, grandchildren Alexis (Tony) Westerfield, Zach (Rebekah) Jenkins, Ashley Huskey, Madison (Brad) Hamby, Harrison Huskey, Tanner (Kaley) Jenkins, great-grandchildren Amora, Will, Eli, Lane, Lily, Levi, Sadie, Walker, Weston, and Lucy, sisters Sylvia (Larry) Kirkendoll, Freida Burnette and brother Howard Meeks, sister-in-law Sue Meeks, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday June 30th from 5-8 pm and on Wednesday, July 1st from 11:00 am-12:00 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. The funeral service will be in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 pm Wednesday officiated by Dr. Bill Henry. The committal service and interment will follow in Palmer Cemetery in Palmer, TN at 3:00 pm EST (2:00 CST).
