Mary Carolyn Oliver “Carolyn”, 72, passed away peacefully in her home in Hixson on Friday, Oct. 27. Carolyn was a friend to everyone she met, and she had many close friends in cities she had lived in all over the country.
Born in Savannah, Ga., Carolyn was an animal lover her entire life and had numerous pets over the years, including countless dogs and cats, horses, cockatiels, guinea hens, a baby goat and a mule. She especially loved her horses, and rode them on trails all over North and South Carolina and beyond. Her favorite horse was an Appaloosa named Comanche.
One of Carolyn’s other loves was the beach, especially Pawleys Island, S.C. She regularly visited the area with family and never missed a chance to eat crab legs, fresh boiled shrimp and hushpuppies.
Carolyn and her husband Ron left Rock HIll, S.C. and moved to Hixson in 2015 to be closer to their grandchildren. She attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hixson and enjoyed volunteering at assisted living facilities in the area. She attended every softball game, basketball game, birthday party or other event she could in support of her grandchildren.
Carolyn is remembered by those who loved her as a sweet, generous, caring and supportive person. She was an easy person to be around and had a beautiful smile. She laughed easily and was fiercely loyal to the people she loved, a trait she passed on to her daughters. She was a loving friend, sister, wife and mother, and she will be deeply missed.
Carolyn is predeceased by her parents, Lillian Lucille and Jefferson Earl Williams and her brother Jefferson Earl Williams, Jr.
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, William Ronald Oliver of Hixson, and two daughters, Fran Oliver and Amy O. Williams (Cameron), and three grandchildren she loved dearly, Sophie and Evelyn Williams and Maya Oliver, all of Hixson; her brother David H. Williams (Nancy) of Durham, N.C. and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, and her cats Smokey, Fluffy and Emma and her two dachshunds, Gracie and Buster.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel. The family will receive visitors there from 1:00 pm until service time.
