

Casey Smith Austin, 66, passed away at her home after a valiant battle with lung cancer on June 11, 2014. Casey was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended Edmondson Business College. She held many and varied secretarial and managerial positions throughout her life, including working at St. Jude’s School and Smith Court Reporting Agency. Her last position was as Director of the Pet Placement Center in Red Bank. Casey was a life-long gardener and lover of animals. She spent many years immersed in the Racking Horse industry, along with daughter, spending many happy hours at horse shows throughout the South.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Austin, III, and her parents, Richard and Casey B. Smith. She is survived by her only child, Sandra Ann Austin, (Tyrus Morgan Cobb), of Wildwood, Georgia, sisters Christine Smith of Alamosa, Colorado, Connie (Paul Wheeler) Smith of Houston, Texas, and brother Dr. Richard S. (Ruth) Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee, and nieces Casey Smith of Memphis, Tennessee and Barbara Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Per Casey’s request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers and in her memory, donations may be made to the Pet Placement Center, 5975 Dayton Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37401.
