

Charles David Ridings, 70, graduated to Heaven on Thursday, September 29, 2016. Charles was born in Maryville, Tennessee on December 14, 1945. He retired after 25 years of service at Sequoyah Nuclear Power Plant as a chemical technician. Charles also worked for the State of Tennessee prior to his employment at Sequoyah. He was a cherished member of North River Christian Church in Middle Valley. Charles was a flower enthusiast and received many blue ribbons at the Hamilton County Fair for his African violets. Charles founded and was also the Charter President of the African Violet Society of Chattanooga. He helped host the Dixie African Violet Society Regional Convention at the Chattanooga Choo Choo. He was also a member of the Greater Atlanta African Violet Society. Charles graduated from Walland High School in 1963 and from Maryville College with a BA in English. He was a football manager at both schools. He studied at Johnson Bible College in Knoxville. Later, he studied at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, earning an Associate’s Degree in Chemistry. He served as a missionary spreading the love of Jesus in Seoul, Korea. Jesus Christ, his family and his church family were foremost in his life. Special thanks to the neighbors who were so kind and caring. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Avery Ridings; sister, Janice Ridings Andrews. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Peggy Ridings; mother, Geneva Ridings; brother, Richard (Sharon) Ridings; sister, Sherry (Kim) Koerner; uncle, Bill (Rose) Ridings; step-daughter, Cheryl (Brian) Ault; step-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Zachary Ault; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the March of Dimes, 1275 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, New York 10605. Memorial services on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 4:00 pm, at the North Chapel Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor, Clint Etherton and Elder, Jeff Rose officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on October 9, 2016 at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be scheduled at Rocky Branch at a later date.
