Charlotte Kathleen (Emmert) Gray

A longtime resident of Hixson, she was retired from Highland Pediatric Clinic where she as a Nurse. She loved working with the staff and children there. Years ago she had worked at John Allen Elementary School as a Teacher’s Assistant.

Charlotte had many talents. She was an accomplished artist in many styles and mediums (watercolor, oil, etc.). She was a member of the Civic Arts Guild and was presented and placed in several art shows. Charlotte was also a hooker – of wool rugs. Her group, often called Laura’s Girls (for their leader Laura Coppinger) met every Monday night for decades. What was said there stayed there. The group finished the last rug she was hooking and presented it to her very recently – she was overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness. The group has shared a loving bond. She was very creative & loved working in the flowers in the yard. She had a love for all animals, especially cats and yard critters.

She was a long time member of Burks United Church and the Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class. She participated in many activities before her health began to fail.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Joseph (Joe) Shayne Gray, and parents Kathleen McKinney Emmert and Charles Emmert of Bristol, TN.

She is survived by her son, David (Tammy) Gray of Signal Mtn.; daughter, Teresa (Darin) Tipton of Chattanooga; grandchildren; Jeffrey and David Gray, Abigail (Austin) Moore, Ashton and Seth Tipton, 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Sue Emmert of Hixson; brother, Larry Emmert of Bristol, TN., several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Charlotte’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday April 22, 2022 in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends Thursday evening April 21, 2022 from 4 – 8 pm. Interment will follow the service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte’s name to McKamey Animal Center, 4500 N. Access Rd., Chattanooga, TN., 37415.
