

He was born in Advance Missouri, worked in the U. S. Senate 2 years after high school and subsequently graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for TVA for 38 years retiring as the Director of the Division on Fossil and Hydro Power in 1988. He was named the first plant superintendent at Bull Run Steam plant which even today ranks as one of the most efficient plants in the United States.
Clem was a Fellow in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a registered Professional Engineer, Chattanooga Engineers Club, a Mason and a Shriner. He was active in the TVA Retirees Association and served as the Valley-wide President. He served 19 years as a board member of Bicentennial Volunteer, Inc. and Retiree Resource Corporation which are two TVA affiliated organizations. He served on the board of directors of the TVA Retirement System. He was a board member of the Half-Century Club. He was a member of the American Arbitration Association and did consulting work on the management of power plants, both in this country and overseas after his retirement. He was an active volunteer at the Ronald McDonald house and a past President and member of the Chickamauga Investment Club. He was a member of the Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School class.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Cummings Schonhoff, daughter Julia Schonhoff Wyatt, and grand-daughter Farrah Jeanine Wyatt.
He is survived by his wife Doris Garrigan Schonhoff and three children Steven Schonhoff of Huntsville, AL Randy Schonhoff of Maitland, FL and Linda Whisman of Kingsport, TN and grandchildren, Katie, Matt, Chelsea, Aubrey, Megan, Randall, Sophia and Zane.
He was quiet well-mannered man, a gentleman in every sense of the word, and a friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff and nurses with Hospice of Chattanooga and his care giver, Jackie Johnson with Home Instead Senior Care of Chattanooga.
The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Thursday, Feb. 2, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Clem’s life will follow at 1 pm on Thursday at the North Chapel with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Clem’s name to the Ronald McDonald House, 200 Central Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403, or Ridgedale Baptist Church, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421, or to your favorite charity.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN.
