Courtland was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was a 1971 graduate of Hixson High School. He proudly served our country during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy. “Bud” retired from the City of Chattanooga. He was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church. “Bud” was a board member, former director and avid game master of Chattacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia and C. T. “Corky” Smythe, Sr.
Courtland is survived by his brother, Douglas and his wife Brenda Smythe; two nieces, Amber Delph and Ashley Lane.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends will gather at the North Chapel on Monday, March 22 around 12:45 and leave in a procession at 1 pm.
Graveside services for “Bud” will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37404 with his nephew-in-law, Dr. Joseph Delph officiating.
