Dainy Garland Masic (Dana) passed away in her sleep on October 4, 2018 at age 80. She was born in Summerville, Ga., but lived her whole life in what she lovingly referred to as her beautiful city, Chattanooga.
Dainy was the loving wife and best friend of Peter Charles Masic Sr. for 51 years, the loving mother of Dana Kristina Masic and Peter Charles (Hannah) Masic Jr. and the loving grandmother of Mackenzie Masic; all living in the grater Chattanooga area. She is also survived by her beloved sister Teena G. Wilson of East Ridge.
Dainy was preceded in death by her parents Bonnie Ruth Garland and Printest Dainy Garland.
Dainy graduated from Chattanooga High School and attended the University of Chattanooga where she was selected as one of the “Moccasin Beauties” in 1957. She worked for the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga for many years, mostly in Customer Service and Information.
She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church where she was very active in several ministries including holding offices on the School Board and Finance Committee. She also taught Catholic Religious Education there, had been a Eucharistic Minister, Room Mother, Church Librarian and was even the School Patrol Officer there for a time. She had started a Junior Catholic Youth Organization Program with the help of her husband Peter and the support of former pastor the Rev. Phillip Breen. This program grew and is now a very important mission of the parish.
Dainy enjoyed the arts, music and visual. She loved nature and the outdoors, especially the beach. She spent a lot of time working in her yard, “digging in the dirt”, as she called it. She was an animal lover and supportive of causes for them. She had been a docent at the Hunter Museum and the Tennessee Aquarium.
In lieu of flowers Dainy would like to ask for contributions to the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera or the McKamey Animal Shelter.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at St. Jude Catholic Church.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11:30 am at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Charlie Burton officiating. Inurnment will follow after the Funeral Mass.
Arrangements are held by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
