David Timothy Gibbs left this world and went to be with his Lord on Sept 4, 2025. He was a native of Chattanooga, born on April 10, 1950. He attended Henry L. Barger Elementary School, Brainerd Jr. High School and Brainerd High School. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s in Administration. David is a retired educator and administrator from the Walker County Public Schools.
A member of Grace Works Church, David was involved in the music ministry; choir, handbells, and playing his trumpet. He was also involved in many musical programs with churches as a past member. He has been a member of Brainerd Baptist Church, Central Baptist Church of Woodmore, where he was a deacon, and Covenant Baptist Church, all of Chattanooga.
As an alumni of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, David was a member of the marching band and a member of the alumni band. Being an avid sports fan, David served as President of the Chattanooga Mocs Club. He received the Harold Wilkes Award, a distinguished award at the university. He also received The Scrappys on April 10, 2014 for Fan of The Year. He was a longtime supporter of the athletic program and the athletes of the university.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche and Dillon Gibbs.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Carol Gaylor Gibbs; his sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and John Grant of Bogart, GA; nephew, James Grant of Bogart, GA; nephew and niece-in-law, Brian and Leigh Anne Grant of Monroe, GA; great nephews, Caleb Grant and Andrew Grant of Monroe, GA.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 7th from 2-4 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 8th in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tony Leonard officiating. Dr. Bill Owens will conduct the graveside committal service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers include Keith Griffith, Terry Irish, Dale Parks, Rick Richard, Gary Ross and Mike Tawzer.
