David grew up in Hixson, Tennessee where he spent the first half of his life He then move with his parents to Dayton Mountain.
David served in the National Guard Reserves for eight years. He worked as a machinist and retired after 21 years employment with TVA. During his retirement, David pursued several business ventures, including a convenience service station and a thrift store. As a result, he is well known in the business community of Rhea County.
Although David never married or had children of his own, loving and caring for children was one of his favorite things to do, and he did it well. All his nieces and nephews called him “Papaw”, and they returned the love he so generously gave them. There were two nieces who were more like daughters to him: Tamara Holder and Leeah Fekete. He more often played the role of father to them than just an uncle.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, Anna Mae Hutton Lewis and David G. Lewis; sister-in-law, Hattie Lewis; brother-in-law, Floyd Ashley.
He is survived by his brother, James E. Lewis of Harpersville, Alabama; sisters, Vera Juene Ashley, Alicia Faye (Charles) Ayers, both of Chattanooga; sisters, Linda Deloris (Robert) Benton of Athens, Tennessee and Charlotte Mae (Ed) McNair of Dayton, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to especially thank, Juan Carlos “John” Meza Quintero, for his kindness and care of David.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 30 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Milton Knox officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
