David was born on September 11, 1950, in Roanoke, VA to Lillian Turpin and Frank Keen Martin. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Wayne Martin. David graduated from William Byrd High School, Vinton, VA, and received a BS degree in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. He was a dedicated supporter of all Virginia Tech athletic teams and academic programs. David’s work as an Industrial Engineer included locations of Morton Frozen Foods and Pepperidge Farm in several states. In 1986 he moved to Chattanooga, TN to work in Human Resources at a local Truck Leasing company.
David was a certified PADI and SSI Scuba Instructor, teaching hundreds of students and certifying instructors over the years. He loved the water, both boating on Lake Chickamauga and SCUBA diving in various locations including the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans and the Red Sea.
After retirement, David served as a board member and later as Treasurer of Families Anonymous International. He also served as President of his HOA for many years. He enjoyed traveling the USA and the world, having set foot on all seven continents, visiting 46 US states and 67 countries.
David played the guitar and loved movies and rock & roll music. Most of all David loved his family, especially spending time with his grandsons. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years Pat, daughter Virginia, son Stephen, daughter-in-law Julia, grandsons Dylan and Jude, brother Richard, and sister-in-law Lynn Martin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in David’s name may be made to Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation, in recognition of their Stroke Program, One Siskin Plaza, Chattanooga, TN 37403 or St. Peter’s Episcopal School- Charting Our Future, 848 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
Visitation will be held Sunday May 17th from 2-4 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home- North Chapel, 5401 Hwy 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
