

Don H. Baldwin was born June 28, 1940, to Beatrix (Charlton) and Don C. Baldwin in Independence, Missouri. Don spent his early life in Texas, but the family moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where he was active in scouting and earned his Eagle Badge. He graduated Wyandotte High School.
He was a Sigma Chi at Kansas State University, where he graduated with a degree in Business. For two years, he traveled for Proctor Gamble in Marketing. He married Sherry (Reed) in 1965, and joined the Boy Scout profession. He served as Assistant District Scout Executive, District Executive, and Exploring Executive in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1974, he joined the St. Paul Council, where he served as Field Director, Exploring Director, and Director of Support Services. He represented the Council as a delegate to the Minnesota White House Conference on Families. He was a part of the team that put together a United Way Campaign. In 1984, he went to be part of the Information Systems Division at the National Office in Irving, Texas. The team installed computers, and trained the employees in all the councils in the U.S., the Transatlantic and Far East Councils. Don wrote documentation for the training manuals as well. When all were installed, the team ran training courses on software updates.
For two National Jamborees, Don was the Director of activities with over 700 volunteers working to make the events a success. He was the Associate Advisor of the coed Explorer Post that the National Office sponsored. He led youth on trips to Alaska, Honduras, Switzerland, Austria, the Boundary Waters Canoe, and the Sea Base in Florida. He retired from the B.S.A. in 2006 and moved to Hixson, Tennessee to be closer to family.
Since retirement, he has been a regular volunteer at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen. He streamlined and maintained their food inventory, sorted and dated cans, and served meals with his church. He was the Community Kitchen “Volunteer of the Year” in 2011. He has been active in his church serving as a trustee and a leader of Mission Trips to disaster areas.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry, of 51 years, son, Shawn (Laura), Oviedo, Florida, daughter, Andrea McCurdy (Bob) Trenton, Georgia, and brothers, Robert, (Marilynn, deceased), Illinois, and John (Harriet), Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents.

His Memorial Service will be Wednesday, April 26, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:30, at the First Christian Church, 650 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
