Born on April 26, 1939, in Spring City, she was the cherished daughter of Charles Wesley Roberson and Norma Ceylie Garrison Roberson. She attended Sequatchie County High School and, after graduating, moved to Chattanooga to attend secretarial school. During that time, she met the man of her dreams, Albert Carl Harjes Jr., a New York transplant sent to Chattanooga to assist with the launch of WTVC. Together they built a loving family and shared a devoted marriage of sixty-two years.
Dorthea had a servant's heart and was faithfully employed at Trinity Baptist Church School, where she touched many lives through her kindness and dedication. She was known for her deep devotion to family, her keen sense of fashion, and her gracious spirit. She especially enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her flowers and outdoor spaces. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Carl Harjes Jr.; her brothers, Timmy, David, Denny, and Dwight Roberson; and her son, Marc-Anthony Harjes.
She is survived by her sister, Caryolyn Roberson Green; her brother, Tony Roberson; her children, Wend Louise Harjes James (Tim) and Albert Carl Harjes III (Dee); her grandchildren, Daniel, Bret, and BJ Harjes, and Emma, Lily, and Grace James; and many extended family members who will continue to honor her legacy of love, style, and service.
Graveside services will be held at noon on February 24 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family thanks Hospice of Chattanooga for their outstanding care and requests that memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers.
