Dorothy Dean Hackney McInturf went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 23, 2025. She was born on August 17, 1933, to the late Dorothy and Arthur Hackney. On August 23, 1951, she married the love of her life, James Edward “Jim” McInturf. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria, and siblings, Faye Cranmore, Tom Hackney, and Jim Hackney.
Dean is survived by her loving family: children Deborah (Tony) Irvin, and Jimmy (Missie); grandchildren Daniel (Wendy) Vaughan, Colt Blackwell, and Dawn Irvin. She also leaves behind her sisters, Sue (Bill) Clonts, and Phyllis (William) Edwards, as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved extended family members.
Dean met Jesus at the age of 33, and from that moment on, she became totally devoted to serving God. One family Member even told her she was a “Jesus freak” and she replied proudly “ Yes I am”. She became known to many as a "prayer warrior." During summer days, her children would often hear her voice lifted in prayer near her garden—faithfully interceding for her family, friends, and anyone who called, day or night, asking for prayer.
She loved deeply—her own family, her husband's family, her church family, and every friend she ever made. She always seemed to have a Bible verse ready for every occasion and moment of need.
Dean's life was a living testimony of faith, love, and service. Her presence will be missed by all who knew her. As the old song goes, “Who’s going to fill her shoes?”
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m.
